Author's notes on the inhumane detention of Mark Sokolovskyi in a Dutch prison
Mark Sokolowski in a Dutch prison, Zaanstad January 2024
I have been engaged in human rights activities for 15 years.
I have been prosecuted in Ukraine, and I know firsthand what a pre-trial detention center is and how you can be held in a cell for 16 months without any investigative actions. At the same time, periodically going to court hearings to extend the preventive measure.
The prosecutor of Luhansk, who falsified the criminal proceedings against me, is currently serving a sentence for abusing prisoners.
At the same time, I am free with an acquittal.
I am not sure that the Dutch officials from the Rijksoverheid national government, represented by Dilan Yesilgoz-Zegerius, Minister of Justice and Defense of the Netherlands, Ministerie van Justitie en Veiligheid, and the leadership of the penitentiary services, who today do not want to do anything for a citizen of Ukraine, will be held accountable for their illegal actions.
Despite all our statements and publications about the cessation of abuse against Mark Sokolovskyi, his situation is only getting worse.
Today, in order to humiliate him, to mock his human dignity, on the instructions of the Schiphol administration, Mark Sokolovskyi was stripped of all his clothes, including underwear, given a short robe and placed in a punishment cell with only an oilcloth mattress. He was denied access to the toilet. He does not even have a blanket to keep warm. There are no books. He is being intimidated and humiliated.
We have only one thing to do: to make the names of the officials known not only in the Netherlands, but also in the international community, and to associate them with torture and inhuman treatment in Dutch prisons, to shame them, to become synonymous with human rights abuses and violations in the Netherlands.
We have all talked about European values, but I cannot even imagine that in the Netherlands, as a country with international authority in the field of justice, such human rights violations against Mark Sokolovskyi became possible.
Having realized that there is no evidence at all in the case, it became profitable for the US government to keep Sokolovskyi in inhumane conditions in the Netherlands, hoping that something would happen to Sokolovskyi and the problem would resolve itself
This photo was taken during a walk in prison, when Mark asked for help for his atopic dermatitis, but he was not helped and he bled his skin, experiencing severe pain and suffering, while the minister was getting high at the same time
